The Editor
[View instructional video 5]
- Module > Edit content.
- Each page is made of a collection of individual Elements
- Change the ‘View’ to ‘All pages’ or a specific page by Title
- How to edit a picture/an image
- A note regarding the file size of the images you choose to upload: The system will not optimize the files you upload, so a large image-file will load slowly on your page
Page building
[View instructional video 6]
- “We never start from scratch, we start from pre-existing pages”
- The ‘Module: Page Template’ is used to create new pages
- The concept of a page being a “Section” vs. it being a “Sub-section” (relates to the menu)
- Decide on your course’s “grid” (quarters, thirds or fifths?) for visual consistency
- The role of Block width (%), and its use in Elements and in Containers
- Editing elements; in the RTE, the ‘Style’ settings give you pre-set formatting
- Combine templates to create custom layouts (delete unwanted Page elements)
- Copy/Paste whole pages, even from one module to another
- “View as Learner” to preview your work
- The key element types (right hand side, drop down):
- Module: Page
- Content: Text - this is used for adding Photos/Images too
- Exercises: Multiple choice question
- Page: Content container (and Page: Close container). [Not yet covered in any video]
- Module: Assessment
(This is a page on its own, so does not need a “Module: Page” separator). - Media: Single video
Adding an embedded link/email address/document
[View instructional video 7]
- Using the link button in the editor to insert a link, email address and a pdf document.
- Remember to set the target to New Window
- The document must be a pdf
Assessment
[View instructional video 8]
- The Assessment properties page;
- Texts for Introduction, Passed (with message on how to close the module), Retry, Failed (only needed if you require a specific number of attempts)
- PASSED message should include info on how to exit the course
- Question Banks (topics);
- Add/Delete questions as well as question banks
- Question, Options (Feedback), Explanation. Leave Advanced tab as is
- Choose number of questions to be picked per Question Bank
- The concept of having a “Case statement” (scenario)
- Random questions vs Prescribed questions, have to be adjusted in BOTH main setting and within each QB
- The assessment should always be the last page of the module
(You should not rely on the users clicking onto additional pages after the assessment, as from experience they often don’t. Once they’ve completed the Assessment, the users are likely to consider themselves done with the training)
